4 night Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive from 4pm, welcome and introduction
Day 2 Coast and Roman times
- West Wittering and East Head: the natural unspoilt sandy beach of West Wittering has wonderful coastal views. We walk round East Head, in constant danger of being washed away and explore the village
- Fishbourne Roman Palace: the largest Roman home in Britain. Imagine the luxury that would once have surrounded the proud owner of this lavish Roman residence. This palace was certainly fit for a king. Stroll around the recreated Roman gardens – the earliest gardens found anywhere in the country – and enjoy the largest collection of mosaics in situ in the UK
- Chichester: after a guided walk you are free to explore this historic city with its cathedral, modern art gallery, new museum and Roman walls
Day 3 Downland Life
- Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Singleton: traditional buildings in a rural landscape that tell the story of the men, women and children who lived and worked in them over a 600-year period
- The Trundle Iron age Hill Fortification: The Trundle rises majestically above the coastal plain, the downs roll out behind it and marvellous views surround you.
- Goodwood House: we visit one of the great country house, home to the Earl and Countess and March
Day 4 Castle and Countryside
- Arundel castle and town: Set on a hill rising from the River Arun, the picturesque town of Arundel has grown up over the last 1000 years around the magnificent castle. We vist the historic castle then you are free to explore the streets packed with interesting, individual shops from antique to designer, the numerous cafes and restaurants and the idyllic riverside walk
- Slindon National Trust Village, woodland and churches: Explore an ancient Sussex village now protected by the National Trust. Explore the village, its two churches, the pottery and converted forge village shop and cafe. We walk in the ancient beech woods and see a stranded beach, a remnant of the time when the coastline was here rather than 7 miles south.
Day 5 Departure
Please pack up your room by 11. If you have time you're welcome to leave your bags and explore further, perhaps using one of our guides to local walks.

2 night Itinerary

Day 2 Fishbourne and Chichester
In the morning we visit Fishbourne Roman Palace, the largest Roman home in Britain. Imagine the luxury that would once have surrounded the proud owner of this lavish Roman residence. This palace was certainly fit for a king. Stroll around the recreated Roman gardens – the earliest gardens found anywhere in the country – and enjoy the largest collection of mosaics in situ in the UK.
We then go on to Chichester and after a guided walk you are free to explore this historic city with its cathedral, modern art gallery, new museum and Roman walls.
Day 3 Arundel
Arundel castle and town: Set on a hill rising from the River Arun, the picturesque town of Arundel has grown up over the last 1000 years around the magnificent castle. We visit the historic castle then you are free to explore the streets packed with interesting, individual shops from antique to designer, the numerous cafes and restaurants and the idyllic riverside walk. Swanbourne Lake and cafe is a short stroll along the river.
Return to the centre by 4pm for a cup of tea and departure.
